CPEIA furthers partnership for smart packaging and smart retail

OTTAWA— Feb. 07, 2017—The Canadian Printable Electronics Industry Association (www.cpeia-acei.ca) has added global consumer products giant Unilever (www.unilever.ca) to its membership, cementing a valued relationship to make printable and flexible electronics relevant and useful to the average consumer.

Unilever is one of the world’s leading suppliers of fast-moving consumer goods. Its products are sold in over 190 countries and used by two billion consumers every day. With a purpose to make sustainable living commonplace, Unilever works to create a better future every day, with brands and services that help people feel good, look good and get more out of life.

This includes adding intelligence to everyday objects, such as the packaging for consumer goods, from healthcare and personal care, to food and beverage. Unilever already serves as co-chair of intelliPACK, a joint program between the CPEIA and PAC, Packaging Consortium. Over the past year, intelliPACK has evolved from a concept into North America’s only business network focused on smart packaging and smart retail solutions.

“Unilever is a multi-category, global company with the desire and ambition to advance end user applications and executions in printed electronics across the business,” said Mark Majewski, President and CEO of the CPEIA. “It’s a great endorsement that this global brand has chosen to base more of its work in this area here in Canada. We welcome the Unilever team to our eco-system and look forward to a long and productive partnership to develop and trial end use applications in smart packaging and smart retail.”

“Incorporating printed electronics into our business can sustainably bring intelligence to better protect our brands, enhance the customer, shopper and consumer engagements, track and report end-to-end experiences, and enable circular economy opportunities,” said Christine Di Fabio, Global Research & Development, Print & Connectivity/Intelligent Packaging, at Unilever. “We look forward to building valuable partnerships within the printed electronics community through the CPEIA to form new ideas and innovations, and to achieve global scale.”

Unilever actively works to support technology innovation. For example, the Unilever Foundry is a platform for startups and innovators to engage, collaborate and explore business ideas with Unilever and its 400+ brands, which now becomes more accessible to CPEIA Members.
