During our 2017 Annual General Meeting on May 24, Full Members granted the CPEIA (now intelliFLEX) a mandate to pursue the development of two institutes that would be co-funded in cash and in kind by industry, government and post-secondary institutions.
The intent of these institutes is to bridge the commercialization/ manufacturing scale-up gap faced by startups and SMEs in our industry sector, on the principle that a rising tide will float all ships. This challenge was identified at our 2016 Fall Sector Leadership Council Meeting.
Our members see a clear need for these institutes in Canada to advance our industry and address five key industry challenges. Hundreds of millions of dollars have already been invested in similar co-funded institutes in the U.S. and Europe.
The proposed institutes are:
- The Flexible & Hybrid Electronics (FHE) Manufacturing Institute
- The Smart Textile and Wearables Manufacturing Institute
But …
Significant consultation is still required to advance and refine these concepts. We must develop appropriate technology road maps. And we need your voice at the table to determine how these institutes should operate, how they can be funded and how they will be held accountable to all stakeholders.
That’s why we are convening this one-day session in Toronto.
These are high-level meetings that follow the Sector Development Leadership Council we convened last fall at Xerox Research Centre of Canada. They are intended for executives and other senior decision makers with the authority to commit funds and other in-kind resources to these proposed institutes.
More detailed agendas will be forthcoming. For now, mark your calendars and reserve your ticket!
