Building intelligence at the NRC

By our invitation, Ron Zimmer (left), President and CEO of the Continental Automated Buildings Association (CABA), toured the National Research Council’s Printable Electronics Flagship Research Program on July 15 with its Executive Director, Thomas Ducellier (right) and CPEIA President and CEO Peter Kallai.

CABA is one of several strategic industry partners with which the CPEIA is pursuing a vertical market strategy to help commercialize PE-enabled products and applications. As a result of the tour and subsequent meetings between the CPEIA and CABA, we are aligned to create significant opportunities for the membership of both organizations.

The CPEIA can help companies, university groups access federal funding for academic research

Are you part of a university research group interested in pursuing specialized research in printable and organic electronics for any one of the CPEIA’s target verticals? (These include Intelligent Packaging, Aerospace and Defence, Automotive and Industrial Applications, Health and Wellness, Intelligent Documents, Consumer Electronics and Wearables).
There are two funding programs in particular that we believe are a fit. They are as follows:
  • Collaborative Research and Development Grants: These grants (which include DND/NSERC Research Partnership Grants), are intended to give companies that operate from a Canadian base access to the unique knowledge, expertise, and educational resources available at Canadian post-secondary institutions and to train students in essential technical skills required by industry. The mutually beneficial collaborations are expected to result in industrial and/or economic benefits to Canada. You can find more information here.

  • Connect Grants: These grants provide targeted financial support to encourage post-secondary researchers at universities and/or colleges to connect with industry and other knowledge end-user communities in order to form new partnerships. Connect Grant recipients can be individuals at either an NSERC-eligible institution or a not-for-profit, non-government organization. Learn more about these grants here.
The CPEIA can manage these projects in collaboration with academic organizations, and bring key industry players to the table, to create a national research program supported by government funding.

Interested university groups and companies should contact CPEIA President and CEO Peter Kallai at pkallai@cpeia-acei.ca or 613-795-8181.

Can your business take advantage of Ontario’s Jobs and Prosperity Fund?

The Government of Ontario recently reintroduced its proposed 10-year, $2.5 billion Jobs and Prosperity Fund as part of its new Budget.

Businesses, business associations and entrepreneurs can tap into this funding pool for projects to enhance productivity and help them compete in the global marketplace.

The Fund offers capital for three streams, including a New Economy Stream focused on building innovation capacity, improving productivity, performance and competitiveness, and increasing access to global markets.

To learn more about the Fund and its other two streams, Food and Beverage Growth Fund and Strategic Partnerships Stream, please visit the provincial website.

If you are an Ontario manufacturing company interested in accessing the Fund, the CPEIA can assist with the introductions. Please contact Peter Kallai at pkallai@cpeia-acei.ca or 613-795-8181.

Contribute to the CPEIA Knowledge Base

The Canadian Printable Electronics Industry Association is building its Knowledge Base.

This is a repository of current and relevant industry information for the exclusive use of our Members.

If you have non-promotional materials related to the many facets of the printable and organic electronics industry, we would be happy to consider them for inclusion in the Knowledge Base.

We are interested in white papers, case studies, market data, research reports, even feature articles from newspapers and magazines, if they speak to topics and trends relevant to PE products and applications.

Please do not submit marketing or other promotional materials. This is not a sales channel, but an information exchange on relevant R&D, technology and applications.

Save the date: Oct. 20 workshop with PAC, Packaging Consortium

The CPEIA and PAC, Packaging Consortium are hosting a fall workshop on Printable Electronics for Intelligent Packaging.

CPEIA members should mark their calendars to take part in the workshop on October 20, 2015 in Toronto.

The workshop is your opportunity to engage with industry players from among PAC’s membership and learn how your PE-related technologies or applications could help to address the packaging industry’s key priorities, such as reducing food and packaging waste.

This is an opportunity to meet with potential new customers, end users and designers from globally competitive companies in the packaging industry who can influence the inclusion of your technology into their products.
Additional details will be forthcoming.
